Which isn't to say it won't happen, but remember, we've been sidling up to an Iranian war for a while now. They're going to have to do some major backtracking on their Iran-is-Evil-and-Must-Be-Destroyed posturing before they can admit they're working with them. Still, it's fascinating days, with Poppa Bush in rapping Junior's knuckles (finally!!) and trying to steer a saner course. (To think we'd ever be looking at GHWB for that!!) I was watching Dateline London this morning, a show where the expat newspaper and magazine reporters have a roundtable, and they had some interesting views on things. The French Le Monde fellow seemed to think that the mid-terms was a reflection of US Foreign Policy almost exclusively. I think he was missing the point a bit, which is that on the domestic agenda there are a number of issues such as stem-cells, gay marriage, and the erosion of civil liberties. The big take away for from the show was that they all were indicating that with the insertion of elder statesmen like Baker and Bolton that perhaps there was a way out of Iraq. Shockingly they thought that it was via working with the Syrians and the Irananians to broker a peace. Interesting plan- is that something that you have heard accross the water as well?
